WP7 Launch on October 11

Microsoft have invited the press to a London event on October 11th, signalling the launch of Windows Phone 7 in the UK.

The newly developed software was released to manufacture on September 16th,  indicating that the release would be imminent.

Windows Phone 7 is a very different beast to it's 6.5 predacessor, and in many ways could become a bit of a game changer in the world of smartphones. It puts the app-centric model to one side, as it focuses on the user experience and making using the phone simple.

For example, you don't have to go into an app, such as Facebook to send someone a message - you can choose your contact and then decide the best way to contact them. Instead of scrolling through screens of app icons, you are instead able to use the hubs to see the latest information at a glance.

Microsoft are trying to hard to position Windows Phone 7 as having an easy to use, intuitive interface, with adverts showing how this phone allows you to get on with 'real life'. The interface is simple and calm, and looks modern compared with the cluttered screens of the competition.

The phone should be available on all the major UK networks at launch. For details of the handsets available please visit our Windows Phone 7 page.
