Not Business Time for WP7

Windows Phone 7 not yet targeted to business?

Microsoft's ISV Developer evangelist Paul Foster revealed at a recent press event that "the device is clearly a consumer device".

The fact that all Windows Phone 7 apps have to be purchased through Marketplace means that there is no room for businesses to deploy bespoke apps just to employees, or through private delivery. This is apparently on the list for future updates.

Paul also referred to the "Windows Embedded Team" who would be taking on the Windows Mobile 6.5 market, offering the "mass devices being managed centrally" which are so important to many businesses.

Paul also revealed Microsoft's hopes that Windows Phone 7 may become a business phone through the back door, as all the features are there for a business person to be able to edit and create documents, and access multiple email accounts and calendars.

The iPhone, which is now accepted as a business phone alongside Blackberry, has entered the business market in a similar way, with it's integration with Outlook and Google Calendars making it useful for the workplace. Also with the huge volume of apps available, you are sure to find a time management tool or even an app to track to your email marketing.

The lack of any form of removable storage, and the fact that the Windows Phone 7 doesn't support tethering are also bonuses for business use, as it means increased security.
